Waterview Bay Dry Dock

It is with much pleasure we announce that this noble dock, built by our enterprising citizens Messrs. T. S. Mort and Captain Rountree, was opened yesterday, in accordance with the appointment made early last year.

The Governor-General, steamship, was to have been the first vessel to enter, but doubts having arisen as to whether the dock would be sufficiently forward to receive her yesterday, she proceeded to Melbourne on Saturday. The Casper, barque, Captain Eldred, was also to have gone in, but yesterday being a holiday no steamer could be procured to tow her round. The Russian built ship Challenger, of 700 tons burden, was honoured by being the first vessel docked in Waterview Bay. We are informed a formal opening of the dock will take place is a few days.
