The Act of Parliament 12th and 13th Victoria, No. 96, is published in a supplement to the Government Gazette. It is a short Act to remove doubts as to the powers of Colonial Courts to try prisoners who have committed offences at sea.

It provides that all persons charged in any colony with offences committed on the sea, may be dealt with in the same manner as if the offences had been committed on waters within the local jurisdiction of the Courts of the colony. Persons convicted of offences are to receive the same punishments as if convicted in England.

There is a proviso that the Act shall not interfere with the powers given to the Supreme Courts of New South Wales and Van Diemen's Land by the Act 9th Geo. IV., No. ??. (?? Not stated).
