Proclamation.

By His Excellency Sir Charles Augustus Fitz Roy, Knight Companion of the Royal Hanoverian Guelphic Order, Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief of the Territory of New South Wales and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.

Whereas by my Proclamation, bearing date the twenty-ninth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and forty-seven, an Act of the Imperial Parliament of Great Britain and Ireland, passed in the fifth and, sixth year of her Majesty's reign, intituled " An Act for regulating the carriage of passengers in Merchant Vessels," was, subject to the exceptions therein contained, extended and made applicable to the carriage of passengers by sea, from New South Wales to certain places named in the said proclamation ; and whereas the length of the voyage of any ship carrying passengers from New South Wales to the western coast of America was, under the rule of computation thereby declared, estimated at sixty days ; and it has been deemed proper to extend the period of the voyage, in the cases of ships proceeding to the western coast of North America: Now, therefore, I, the Governor aforesaid, by this my proclamation, for that purpose issued, do declare that the following shall be the rule of computation by which the length of a voyage of any ship carrying passengers from New South Wales to the west coast of North America shall be estimated for the purposes of the said Act, that is to say:

For a voyage to the western coast of North America-ninety days.

Given under my hand and seal, at Government House, Sydney, this eleventh day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine, and in the thirteenth year of Her Majesty's Reign.
