This magnificent clipper has been discharged with a rapidity worthy of her name, and on Saturday afternoon. nothing was left in her of her heavy cargo from Liverpool. As the Lightning entered inwards at the Customs on 1st instant, she affords us another opportunity for gratulation on the extraordinary effects produced in Hobson's Bay by energy, and active supervision.
A few more instances, and the Port of Melbourne will be celebrated for quick despatch instead of noted for somewhat the reverse. In this instance, the work would have been performed in less time but for an extraordinary and unexpected visit of the officers of H.M. schooner Anonyma on Friday. These gentlemen were, for a considerable time, in possession of the ship, during the absence of Captain Forbes, and insisted on a stop being put to all work while the men were mustered, for the purpose of ascertaining whether any one in receipt of Government pay or pensions was on board, and of soliciting the men to come forward as volunteers to H.M. Service. Ultimately six of the crew of the Lightning were carried off, four as volunteers and two on whom, it was said, the service had some claims, thus leaving the vessel short handed to that extent. We do not know whether this is the only visit which has been made, but no others have yet reached our ears. The Lightning will sail for Liverpool positively on the 20th instant.
