Launch of a Screw Steamer - Borysthene

A new and beautiful iron-built screw steamer, the Borysthene, was launched on Thursday, from Mr. Laird's Sefton-street yard, in the presence of a considerable number of spectators. The launch was effected in splendid style, at half-past eleven o'clock, and the ceremony of christening was gracefully performed by Mrs. Fletcher, the wife of Mr. G. H. Fletcher, agent of the company.

This vessel, has bean built for the Messageries Imperiales Company of France, and the is intended to be one of a line of steamers to run twice a week between Marseilles and Constantinople, for the conveyance of troops, stores, or mails. She is sister to the screw steamer Jourdain, launched for the same company some time ago. Her dimensions are: 230 feet in length by 33 feet beam. Her tonnage is 1270 tons and her engines, by Messrs. Fawcett, Preston and Co., are of 220? horse-power.
