The following notice was posted at the Harbour Master's Office in Auckland on the 16th October last, respecting a very dangerous rock in the track of vessels passing to and from Auckland.
"This rock bears from the southern end of the Little Barrier, (or Thourouter) Island, due E. by compass, distant from three to four miles ; from Wellington Head, Great Barrier Island, about S.S.W., and from the extremity of Le Kowau Island, about N.E. N. It is of small extent, has about three feet of water over it at low water, and deep water within half a cable's length of it. The sea is frequently seen to break upon the rock, especially during strong weather, but this cannot be depended upon, as I have cruised about it for a whole day, without seeing any indication of shoal water during moderate weather.
David Rough Harbour Master, Auckland."
Sailing Directions.- When you make Point Look-out, steer for it to the eastward, when you get to the northward of it about a quarter of a mile steer W. by N. N., which will take you to the entrance between the sand banks, your course through will be W.N.W. until you bring Amity to bear S.W. S., haul up for it.
