Article I
A COMMODORE is to carry a Broad Pendant ; and if be be appointed to command in Chief, or the Ship which carries his Broad Pendant be commanded by another Captain, he shall have the rank, with the pay and all the allowances, of a Rear Admiral commanding in Chief. If he be not appointed to command is Chief he shall have the rank and pay, but he shall not have compensation for the servants of a Rear Admiral. If he commands the Ship which carries his Broad Pendant, he shall have such additional pay as the Admiralty may direct. A Commodore to carry a broad Pendant.

In what cases he is to have the rank, pay, and allowances of a Rear Admiral.

Article II
If a Commodore, with or without a Captain, meet with a Flag Officer or a senior Captain he shall keep his Broad Pendant flying ; but the senior Captain shall also carry a Broad Pendant, and he shall be subject to the orders of such senior Captain as long as they shall continue together ; but such senior officer is not to take him under his command, nor to interfere with the government or disposition of his Squadron; nor to give him any orders unless the public service shall absolutely require him to do so; and such Captain is, immediately on separating from him, to strike his Broad Pendant without receiving any additional pay for the time it was hoisted, unless some particular service shall have required his taking the Commodore under his command, from the nature of which, and the manner in which it was executed, the Admiralty may think fit to order some additional pay or allowance to be made. But if a Commodore shall meet with a Squadron, in which there are more than one Captain senior to him, he is to strike his Broad Pendant, and to carry a common Pendant as long as he shall continue with that Squadron ; but he is to hoist the Broad Pendant again, as soon as he separates from it ; and he shall receive all his emoluments as a Commodore in the same manner as he would have done if his Broad Pendant had not been struck. A Commodore meeting a Flag Officer or a Senior Captain, shall keep his broad Pendant flying, but be subject to the orders of such senior Captain as long as they continue together.

Senior Captain not to take him under his command, &c. unless the Public service require him to do so.

Senior Captain on separating to strike his broad Pendant without receiving any additional pay for the time it was hoisted.

Commodore to strike his broad Pendant when meeting with a Squadron in which there are more than one captains senior to him ; but again to hoist it on separating from the Squadron.
