Section XI - Chapter IV
Of Gratuities to Officers wounded in Fight with the Enemy, and to Seamen Hurt in the Service.

| Article I |
| WHEN any Commission, Marine, or Warrant Officers, serving in the Navy, shall be wounded in fight with the enemy, His Majesty has been pleased in consideration thereof to establish the following allowances: |

| Article II |
| If the wound received shall happen to occasion the loss of an eye or a limb, or a total loss of the use of a limb, or be such as shall, upon search made by the Master, Wardens and Assistants, of the Royal College of Surgeons in London, be by them certified to be in its effects of equal prejudice to the habit of the body with the loss of a limb, the party shall receive a gratuity of money of one full year's pay, and be further allowed such expenses relating to his cure (if it is not performed at His Majesty's expense) as shall be certified to be reasonable, under the hands of the said College, upon. examination of the vouchers, which he is to lay before them ; provided, however, he makes oath that he has actually paid the whole of such expenses, according to the several sums set down against each article, and not otherwise; and provided also that such expenses do not, in any case, amount to more than his personal pay for one year in the Ship or company he belonged to, when wounded: and he shall besides continue in pay during the time he shall, by good proof, appear to have lain under cure, if no pension has been settled on him, or until a pension shall have commenced. |

| Article III |
| Officers serving in Ships under the third rate, at the time of receiving wounds, shall be esteemed (as to the measure of a year's gratuity) as Officers of a third rate. |

| Article IV |
| If the wounds received amount not to the loss of a limb, nor are of equal prejudice to the body, the charges of cure only (vouched and limited as in the 2nd Article of this head) and the continuance of the party in pay, are to he allowed; but the continuance in pay, under this circumstance, is not to extend beyond eighteen months from the time the party was wounded: |

| Article V |
| Under the term "Wounded in Fight with the Enemy" shall be comprehended all the several cases included in the Seventh Article, in the preceding Chapter, concerning the "Slain in Fight with the Enemy;" and such as are so wounded shall be paid the gratuities and charges here allowed them upon their application to the Navy Board. |

| When any Warrant or inferior officer, Seaman, or other in sea-pay, shall receive any hurt, or be maimed, or disabled in any service of the Ship, whether it be on board, or on shore, the Captain is to cause a certificate to be made out, and delivered to him according to the printed forms (which will be given to him at the Navy Office) expressing the nature of the hurt, and on what occasion it was received, which certificate shall be. signed by himself, a Lieutenant, the Master, Surgeon, and, one more of the other Warrant Officers of the Ship ; to the end that he may receive the benefit of the Chest at Greenwich, according to the Rules and Constitution of the same. |
