Admiralty, 17th August, 1827
His Royal Highness the Lord High Admiral desires that Officers or other persons, having occasion to transmit Certificates and other Documents to His Royal Highness, his Council, or his Secretaries, will not send the original Certificates or Documents, but only copies thereof, which copies will remain in this Office, annexed to the Letter or Memorial to which they may belong: If, however, the parties shall choose to transmit their original documents, they are to understand that they will not be afterwards returned to them, but retained in this Office for the purpose aforesaid.
This rule does not apply to the Smart Tickets or Certificates of Seamen or Marines applying for pensions from Greenwich.
