Oath of Allegiance, &c.

By the Acts 25 Charles II., Cap. 2, and subsequent Acts, and by the 9 George IV., Cap. 17, all Officers of the Navy, on attaining the rank of Rear-Admiral, or on being promoted to a superior rank, are required to take the Oath of Allegiance, and make the Declaration therein respectively mentioned within Six Months, either in the Court of Chancery or King's-Bench, at Westminster, or at the Quarter-Sessions of the County or Place where they shall be resident, in default of doing which their Commissions are declared void. But if the Officer should be absent from England when promoted, or if his promotion shall take place within three months before his departure, he may take the Oath, and make the Declaration, at any time within Six Calendar Months after his return.
