Royal Marines - Uniform - Revision

MEMORANDUM

Admiralty, 21st Aug. 1838

The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased to direct, that Officers of the Royal Marines serving on board Her Majesty's Ships in the East or West Indies, at the Cape of Good Hope, in South America, or in the Mediterranean, shall be allowed to wear as undress a shell Jacket of Scarlet cloth, with Cuffs and front part of the Collar of plain Blue, with one row of small uniform buttons down the front, and gold plaited cord shoulder straps.

That the Officers attached to the Artillery Companies shall wear Sling Belts when employed on Artillery service.

That the Corporals and Privates shall wear the Waist Belt whenever the Pouch Belt is worn, and at no other time.

That the original pattern of the men's Hold-all shall be strictly adhered to.
