My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, having had under consideration the question of Travelling Expenses of Officers employed on the Home Station, are pleased to establish the following regulations :-

1. Officers entitled to travel at the public expense.
1. Officers removed by order from one Ship to another, for the benefit or the Service only.
2. Officers ordered on Special Service.
2. Officers not entitled to travel at the public expense.
1. Officers removed from one Ship to another, at their own request, or at the request of the Captain of either Ship, with the consent of the Officer so removed.
2. Officers removed on account of misconduct.
3. Officers appointed to service from Half-Pay.
4. Officers going on, or returning from leave.
5. Subordinate Officers, when paid off, and appointed to Flag Ships of Ports, to wait for re-appointment.
6. Officers removed on promotion, or for their own benefit.
3. Allowances for Subsistence.

In all cases where the journey of Officers travelling under the circumstances laid down in the first clause shall exceed ten hours, the following allowances will be made to cover all charges for Subsistence and Lodging:-

4. Allowances for Cab-hire, Porterage, extra Luggage, &c.

All Luggage beyond the amount allowed to passengers by the railway companies, to be sent by goods train ; and an allowance, proportioned to the distance travelled, will be granted, according to the following scale, which is to cover all charges for extra luggage, porterage, waterage, and cab-hire :

And 3s. 6d. will be allowed for every 50 miles above 250.

Note.- The foregoing allowances to be considered a maximum ; but in making application for repayment, the items of expense are to be detailed.

5. Railway Passes.

Whenever practicable, Officers will be furnished with railway passes by the Commander-in-Chief, or Senior Officer at the port whence they are ordered to proceed.

6. Application for payment of Travelling Expenses.

In all applications for payment of travelling expenses, the Officer must state the number of miles travelled, and the time occupied, the charges made must be detailed under the several heads herein laid down ; and the Captain of the Ship which the applicant shall have joined must certify "that the charges have been examined, and are in accordance with the Regulations laid down in Circular No. 334."
