Gratuities to Widows of Seamen and Marines Slain, Killed, or Drowned in the Navy-Fund to be Provided out of the Income of Greenwich Hospital.

Whereas Your Majesty has been graciously pleased, with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons in Parliament assembled, to direct that provision shall be made out of the funds of Greenwich Hospital for the widows of Seamen and Marines slain, killed, or drowned in the Sea Service of the Crown, and that the rules for determining the nature and amount of the provision to be made for such widows, and generally for carrying out the Act, shall be submitted to and approved by Your Majesty in Council ; we beg most humbly to propose that Your Majesty would be graciously pleased to establish the following Regulations:-

  1. That the widows of Petty Officers and Seamen of the Royal Navy and of Non-commissioned Officers and Privates of the Royal Marines slain, killed, or drowned in Your Majesty's Navy, be allowed a gratuity equal to one year's full wages according to the rating of their late husbands at the time of their death, exclusive of any badge or other extra or additional pay.
  2. That all claims be made upon the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital, who are to ascertain through the Accountant-General of the Navy and Inspector of Seamen's Wills the applicant's lawful claim and the amount of her husband's wages previous to their payment of the gratuity.
  3. That the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital appropriate the sum of 2,500/. out of the income of that institution for the year ending the 31st day of December now next for and towards the formation of a fund for the payment of these gratuities to the widows of Seamen and Marines, and at the beginning of each subsequent year submit for the approval of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty what sum they would propose should be set apart for the before-mentioned purpose out of the income of such year, and that such portions of the above-named sums as remain unexpended shall be invested as directed by the 2nd Section of the Greenwich Hospital " Provision for Widows Act," for the purpose of forming the Greenwich Hospital Seamen's Widows Fund.

Under the Provisions of the Act 28 and 29 Vic. cap. 89, Widows of Petty Officers and Seamen of the Royal Navy, and of Non-commissioned Officers and Privates of the Royal Marines, slain, killed, or drowned in the service of the Crown, subsequent to the date of the passing of the above-mentioned Act, may be allowed a gratuity equal to one year's full wages according to the rating of their late husbands at the time of their death, exclusive of any badge or other extra or additional pay.
