Admiralty, 2nd August, 1869.

My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased to direct that in future Navigating Lieutenants who have completed the necessary time to qualify them for First Class Ships, shall, if in England, present themselves for examination at the Hydrographic Department within six months after having completed such time; or, if serving abroad within six months after their return to England.

An Officer failing to present himself within the limit of the said six months will not be considered eligible for examination, unless under some special circumstances to be approved, in each individual case, by their Lordships.
