CHAMOIS ARE INCREASING RAPIDLY IN SWITZERLAND, thanks to the

demanded, each defaulter lead a big stone placed on one shoulder, his head

The head clerk of the political agency at Manipur has telegraphed that Mr.
QUINTON, Chief Commissioner of Assam, and the other Europeans, were killed
in an action with the insurgents, and were not murdered.
Later.
It is reported that Jubraj, the Manipur usurper, has been executed for
massacring the British officers. The people there desire peace.
London, April 13
Details disclosing the most revolting circumstances have now been received
of the murder of Mr.. QUINTON, Chief Commissioner of Assam, and the other
Europeans there. It is stated that Mr.. QUINTON, two officers, and a bugler
were hacked to pieces by the insurgents, and thier mutilated bodies were
then thrown outside the walls of Tamu and devoured by pariah dogs. Mr.
GRIMWOOD, British Resident at Manipur, and two other officers were shot, and
their bodies were treated in a similar manner.
The ammunition of Lieutenant GRANT'S column was almost exhausted when the
relief............? him.
