Clothing Gratuity to Petty Officers Advanced to Rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Extra Pay to Chief Armourers when Employed on General Work, &c.

Admiralty Order in Council No. 26.

26th August, 1893.

A.G.

Whereas a gratuity of 5 is payable, under the Regulations for the Government of Your Majesty's Naval Service, to Seamen and Stoker Petty Officers, on advancement to the position of Chief Petty Officers, to assist them to procure the necessary change of uniform. And, whereas certain other Petty Officers, besides those of the Seamen and Stoker Classes, have similarly to change their uniform on advancement. And whereas we are of opinion that this Gratuity should be paid to all Petty Officers, whose advancement to the rank of Chief Petty Officer involves them in this expense.

And whereas we are of opinion that a uniform rate of Extra Pay of Two Shillings a day should be given to men holding the rating of Chief Armourer, as established by Your Majesty's Order in Council dated 28 October 1892, when employed on general work, or upon work in connection with guns or torpedoes.

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the alteration of the Regulations accordingly.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in these proposals.
