Allowances to Commanders Borne on First Class Cruisers as Executive Officers

Admiralty Order in Council No. 42

30 April, 1894.

A.G.

Whereas by Article 1414 of the Regulations for the government of Your Majesty's Naval Service it is provided that in an Ironclad Ship in which a Commander is borne as Executive Officer, an Allowance of Two shillings and sixpence a day is to be paid, with our sanction, to the Officer of the former Navigating Class responsible for the navigating duties in such Ship, in addition to his pay and allowances, and whereas we are of opinion that, in consequence of the changes in the construction of Your Majesty's Vessels, it is desirable that an Officer of this class, employed under similar circumstances in First Class Cruisers, whether styled Belted, Armoured, or Protected, should also receive this Allowance.

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction payment thereof, and that this regulation should take effect from 1st January 1892.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.

N. P. 1020 / 1894.
