Dietary of Crews of H.M. Ships on the Zambesi and Lake Nyassa Waters

Admiralty Order in Council No. 61.

V.

15 Oct 1894.

Whereas by Orders of the 30th day of July 1891 and the 28th of October 1892 Your Majesty in Council approved of certain additions to the ordinary rations of the crews of Your Majesty's ships employed in the Zambesi and Lake Nyassa Waters: And whereas the. Director-General of the Medical Department of Your Majestys Navy is of opinion that a further improvement in the dietary of the men so engaged is necessary by the addition of enough Oatmeal to provide them with a plate of porridge each morning at the discretion of their Commanding Officers the cost of which it is estimated will not exceed 130 per annum. We beg leave to recommend that on account of the continued bad reports of the health of the crews of these vessels Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to approve of this addition to their rations.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.
