Limits of Age for the entry of Assistant Clerks, R.N., raised - Special Promotion on 3rd February 1895

Admiralty Order in Council No. 72

N.

2 February, 1895.

Whereas in 1891 the limits of age for the entry of Assistant Clerks into Your Majesty's Navy were raised, to the extent of one year. And whereas since promotion to the rank of Assistant Paymaster takes place on attaining the age of 21, the result will be that those Assistant Clerks who entered before 1891 will be passed over by later entries, thus injuriously affecting their prospects. We beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the promotion to the rank of Assistant Paymaster of the Officers thus affected on 3rd February 1895, (being the day before that on which the first of the later entries can claim promotion,) notwithstanding that they will not then be 21 years of age.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have concurred in this proposal.
