Service Under the British Central African Protectorate to Count for Promotion

Admiralty Order in Council No. 88

29 June, 1896.

N.

Whereas by Section 111.(10) of the Rules drawn tip by the Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury under clause 6 of the Superannuation Acts Amendment Bill of 1887 it is provided that if the employment of an Officer under any Colonial Government appears to the Admiralty to be of a nature to afford practical experience likely to be afterwards of public advantage in the event of his return to Imperial Service, his service under the Colonial Government may, if the Admiralty think fit, count towards promotion and retirement, as though it were service in the Imperial Forces.

And whereas we are of opinion that the service of Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve on board War Vessels belonging to the British Central African Protectorate, which is not a Colony, should in a similar manner, be allowed to reckon for promotion. We beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction service under that Protectorate, being allowed to count for promotion.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have concurred in this proposal.
