Substantive Chief Petty Officer Rating of Instructor of Cookery

Whereas by Your Majesty's Order in Council of the 9th August, 1872, the appointment was sanctioned of an Instructor of Cookery at the School of Cookery at Portsmouth, with pay at the rate of 5s. 6d. per day.

And whereas we are of opinion that the Instructor of Cookery should hold a Naval rating and receive a progressive rate of pay.

We beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased to sanction, by Your Order in Council �

  1. The establishment of the substantive Chief Petty Officer rating of "Instructor in Cookery " in Your Majesty's Navy.
  2. The pay of this rating to be as follows : -
  3. On appointment 5s.6d. a day, after five years' service as such ; 6s. a day, after 10 years' service as such ; 6s. 6d a day, whether entered for Continuous Service or Non-Continuous Service,

  4. Engagement for Continuous Service to be obligatory in the event of the appointment of a man already holding a Continuous Service Naval Rating, but optional in the case of a man entered from the shore or holding a Non-Continuous Service rating.
  5. Pension to be according to present regulations.
  6. The rating to be eligible for Honorary Good Conduct Badges.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence herein.
