Inducements to Writers to Remain in the Service after Completing time for Pension

Admiralty Order in Council No. 105

8 February, 1896.

N.

Whereas we have had under our consideration the Pay and allowances granted to Writers employed in Your Majesty's Navy :

And, whereas we are of opinion that, in order to induce experienced men to remain in the Service, after completing time for Pension, it is desirable to increase their pay :

We beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the following proposals :

  1. Chief Writers, who are permitted to re-engage after completing time for Pension, to receive pay at the rate of 6s. a day, instead of 5s. as heretofore.
  2. Chief, Second, and Third Writers to be eligible for Honorary Good Conduct Badges, under the usual conditions.
  3. The grant of Good Conduct Badges with pay, to Chief Writers who re-engage after completing time for Pension, as authorised by Your Majesty's Order in Council of 20th March, 1891, to be discontinued.
  4. The above proposals to take effect from 1st January, 1896.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in these proposals.
