Allowance to Messman Assisting Lieutenant in Charge of Stores at the Naval College, Portsmouth

Admiralty Order in Council No. 161

18 May,1897.

A.G.

Whereas by Your Majesty's Order in Council of the 12th December 1894 the Lieutenant appointed for service with the Acting Sub-Lieutenants at the Naval College at Portsmouth was authorised to take charge of, and account for, the stores belonging to the College, and to receive an allowance of one shilling a day for this duty.

And whereas we consider it advisable, in order to afford this Officer some assistance, which has been found to be necessary, that the Messman of the College should perform the clerical work and keep the stores and Accounts in order, and should receive an allowance of two shillings a day (to include the allowance of 8d. a day which he receives at present for care of mess traps).

We beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction this arrangement.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal
