Addition of Salt to the Dietary of the Crews of Her Majesty's Ships

Whereas owing to the issue of Fresh Meat on board the ships of Your Majesty's Navy having largely supplemented that of Salt Meat, it is very desirable that Salt should now be added to the present dietary of the Crews.

We therefore humbly recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to approve of the addition of Salt to the scale of Victualling in the proportion of 1 oz. per man for every four days, the estimated cost of which for the present numbers borne would not exceed �350, per annum.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal
