Position and Emoluments of Ship's Police

3 August, 1897.

Whereas we are of opinion that it is desirable to raise the position and emoluments of the Police in Your Majesty's Navy ; we beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased, by Your Order in Council, to sanction the following proposals : -

  1. That, in the future, Petty Officers of Your Majesty's Navy, and Non-commissioned Officers of the Royal Marines shall alone be eligible for entry in the Ship's Police.
  2. That the scale of Pay for Ship's Corporals, 2nd Class, i.e., both for those now serving, and for future entrants, shall be 2s. 4d. a day rising to 2s. 8d, a day after one year's service in the rating.
  3. That previous service as Petty or Non-commissioned Officer, shall count towards increase of pay as Ship's Corporal, 2nd Class.
  4. This provision shall apply to those already serving, as well as to future entrants.

  5. Payment for Badges to be made to all ratings in the Ship's Police.
  6. That the outfit Allowance of Five Pounds established by Your Majesty's Order in Council of 26th August, 1893, shall be granted on advancement to Ship�s Corporal, 2nd Class.
  7. That these proposals shall take effect from the 1st October 1897.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in these proposals.
