Pay and Allowances of Officers and Men of the Royal Navy and of the Royal Indian Marine Serving in Indian Defence Vessels

Whereas Your Majesty was graciously pleased by Your Order in Council of 20th March 1891, to sanction certain regulations for the payment of Officers and men of the Royal Navy and of the Royal Indian Marine serving in Indian Defence Vessels ;

And whereas we are of opinion that those Regulations require modification ;

We beg humbly to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased, by Your Order in Council, to approve the following proposals, to take effect from 1st April 1897, viz. :-

  1. Royal Indian Marine Officers, when placed in command of Torpedo Boats or other vessels, to be paid Command Money at the rates payable to Officers of the Royal Navy when similarly employed ;
  2. Royal Indian Marine Officers, when appointed for navigating duties, to be paid Navigating Allowance at the rates payable to Officers of the Royal Navy when similarly employed ;
  3. Royal Indian Marine Officers and Men, when employed in Torpedo Boats, to be paid Extra Pay at the rates payable to Officers and men of the Royal Navy when similarly employed ;
  4. Commanders of the Royal Navy, when employed in Indian Defence Vessels, to be paid Indian Allowance at the rate of 12s. a day ;
  5. Royal Indian Marine Officers temporarily employed in Indian Defence Vessels during mobilisation to be paid the pay of their grade, plus Indian Allowance, the former to be paid from Navy votes and the latter from Indian funds.

Your Majesty's Secretary of State for India in Council, and the Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in these proposals.
