Increased Rate of Pensions to Widows of Fleet Paymasters on the Active List, according to Long and Good Service

Admiralty Order in Council No. 69.

8 August 1899.

c.

Whereas by Your Majesty's Orders in Council of the 9th day of July 1864, the 22nd day of February 1870, and the 18th day of May 1870, provision is made for the optional retirement of Fleet Paymasters on the Active List at the age of fifty-five, such Officers being eligible under certain conditions for promotion to the rank of Paymaster-in-Chief, which is unattainable on the Active List, and their widows in the event of an Officer's death also becoming eligible for a Pension of Ninety Pounds a year under Your Majesty's Order in Council of the Tenth day of November 1886 :

And whereas we are of opinion that it is desirable that the widows of Fleet Paymasters who may die while on the Active List shall be eligible for Pensions at the rate of Ninety Pounds a year, at present sanctioned for the widows of Paymasters-in-Chief, always provided that at the time of their death, such Officers are eligible by service for the rank of Paymaster-in-Chief, and have reached the age for optional retirement :

We beg leave to propose that the award of these pensions at the increased rate shall be governed by the same circumstances as are taken into consideration in granting the Honorary rank of Paymaster-in-Chief on retirement (viz. ; long and good service), and that every award shall be especially considered by us on the foregoing lines :

We therefore beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased, by Your Order in Council, to sanction this proposal :

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence herein.
