Addition of 8 Captains and 13 Commanders to the present Establishment - to provide for the promotions for Special Service in South Africa

Admiralty Order in Council No. 126.

12th November 1900.

To provide for the Promotions for Special Service in South Africa.

Whereas we have had under our consideration the question of providing for the promotion of Officers of Your Majesty's Navy as rewards for special service on shore during the recent hostilities in South Africa and China.

And whereas we are of opinion that such promotions as may be made to the ranks of Captain and Commander should not affect the number of annual promotions to these ranks.

We beg leave therefore most humbly to recommend that in order to provide for the promotion of Officers for the special war services above mentioned, as well as to furnish a permanent increase in the active list of Your Majesty's Fleet, Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to create eight Captains and thirteen Commanders in addition to the Establishment at present authorised.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have concurred in this proposal.
