Admiralty Order in Council No. 134.

9th February 1901.

T.

Whereas Her late Majesty by Her Order in Council bearing date the Second day of February, 1899, authorised us in an emergency to employ certain Officers and men of the Mercantile Marine on the following terms :

"In the event of ships of the Mercantile Marine being temporary commissioned as ships of Your Majesty's Navy to engage Officers and men for service in such ships on such terms and with such remuneration as we may with the consent of Your Majesty's Treasury deem to be expedient ; " and

Whereas the S.S. " Ophir " is about to be temporarily commissioned as a ship of Your Majesty's Navy to be employed for the conveyance of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and

Duchess of Cornwall and York to Australia we beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to authorise us to extend the provisions of Her late Majesty's Order in Council bearing date the Second day of February, 1899, to the case of the S.S. "Ophir," and other cases where it may be desirable to employ Officers and men of the Mercantile Marine in any ships temporarily commissioned as ships of Your Majesty's Navy.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty s Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.
