Admiralty Order in Council No. 140
9 February 1901.
Whereas under the regulations for the government of the Royal Navy established by Order in Council of Her late Majesty the allowance to the Senior Lieutenant of a ship in commission is fixed at the following rates, viz. : -
In a rated ship not allowed a Commander 2s. 6d. a day.
In a ship commanded by a Commander 1s. 6d, a day ;
And whereas we have found it convenient in the interests of the Naval Service to appoint either Captains or Commanders in command of certain of Your Majesty's ships, the duties of the Senior Lieutenant remaining the same under either Commanding Officer;
We humbly beg to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the award of the higher rate of allowance in these particular ships as from the 1st July 1900 irrespective of the rank of the Commanding Officer ;
The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.
