Admiralty Order in Council No. 150.
25th March 1901.
A.G.
Whereas by Order in Council of Her late Majesty bearing date the 19th May 1899, it is provided that a Captain in command of the Torpedo School Ship "Defiance '* at Devonport shall receive an allowance of £125 a year in lieu of servants.
And whereas we are of opinion that it is desirable to provide for the payment of a similar allowance to any officer of the rank of Commander who may be hereafter placed in command of " Defiance " in lieu of a Captain.
We. beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction payment of an allowance of £65 a year in lieu of servants to any Commander so appointed, subject to the conditions laid down in the aforesaid Order in Council of 19th May 1899 for the allowances in lieu of servants to Captains in certain home appointments, viz., that the officer concerned may have servants if he elects upon appointment to live on board his ship, but that if he does not so elect, or if he is accommodated in an official residence, he is to receive the allowance in lieu.
The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in these proposals.
