Captain of the General Depot at Portsmouth - Allowance of £125 a year in lieu of Servants to, on the appointment of a separate Captain for Fleet Reserve duties
|
Admiralty Order in Council No. 151
25 March 1901.
A.G.
Whereas the great increase in the responsibilities devolving upon the Captain of the General Depot and Fleet Reserve at Portsmouth has made it necessary to relieve that Officer of the duties appertaining to the Fleet Reserve, and to transfer them to a Captain specially appointed to perform them ;
And whereas the Captain performing the joint duty has hitherto been paid an allowance of £125 a 3 ear in lieu of servants established by Order in Council of Her late Majesty bearing date the 2nd February 1899, which allowance will, under the terms of the said Order in Council, be transferred to the Captain of the Fleet Reserve ;
And whereas we are of opinion that the Captain of the General Depot should continue to receive payment of the allowance at the same rate as heretofore ;
We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the establishment of an allowance of £125 a year to the Captain of the General Depot at Portsmouth, such allowance to be payable from the date of the appointment of a separate Captain for Fleet Reserve duties, and to be subject to the conditions laid down in the Order in Council of Her late Majesty bearing date the 19th May 1899 for allowances in lieu of servants to Captains in certain home appointments, viz., that the officer concerned may have servants if he elects upon appointment to live on board his ship, but that if he does not so elect, or ,if he is in occupation of an official residence, he is to receive the allowance in lieu.
The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.
