Subsistence Allowance and Billet Money to Recruits detained at recruiting and coast guard stations

Admiralty Order in Council No. 164c

15 June 1901.

A.G.

Whereas we have had under consideration the question of the adequacy of the allowances for Lodging and Subsistence sanctioned for men and boys awaiting entry into Your Majesty's Navy when unavoidably detained at Recruiting and Coast Guard Stations ;

And whereas it has been found that the rates at present payable under Articles 82 and 169 of the " Instructions relative "to recruiting for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines" are insufficient to cover the cost of suitable accommodation ;

We humbly beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased to sanction, by Your Order in Council, an alteration in the existing scale, substituting the following rates for all Candidates for those at present authorised : -

Subsistence Allowance 1s. 6d. a day,

Billet Money 6d. a night.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.
