Admiralty Order in Council No. 183.
4 November 1901.
N.
Whereas we are desirous of conferring some general mark of approbation of the gallantry and endurance displayed by the Guard of Your Majesty's Royal Marines, and the Ratings of Your Majesty's Navy serving with this Guard during the siege of the Legations at Peking, June to August 1900 :
And whereas we are of opinion that such expression of appreciation can best take the form of the grant of six months' extra time to the Officers and Men comprising the Garrison :
We therefore beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the grant of six months' extra time to the whole of the Officers, Non-commissioned Officers and Men of the Royal Marine Guard at Peking, and to those Naval Ratings who were on duty in the Legation with the guard during the siege, such extra time to count for all purposes as regards increase of pay and pension.
The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.
