Increasing the Rate of Pay for Surgeons entered for Temporary Service in the Royal Navy in times of War or Emergency

Admiralty Order in Council No. 199

24 March 1902.

A.G.

Whereas the rate of pay for Surgeons entered for temporary service in the Royal Navy is fixed at 15s. 6d. a day by Appendix XXXIV. of the Regulations for the government of Your Majesty's Naval Service ;

And whereas it has been found that that rate is insufficient to induce members of the medical profession to enter their names upon a list for service when called upon in times of war or emergency ;

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty will be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council, to sanction the increase of the rate of pay to 22s. a day of which 2s. a day would be required for Mess subscription.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.

N.P. 1008 / 1902.
