Clothing Gratuity of £10 for Outfit to newly-entered Stokers

Admiralty Order in Council No. 232.

16 December 1902.

A.G.

Whereas under the Regulations for the government of Your Majesty’s Naval Service, Men of the Stoker class are, upon entry, granted allowances amounting to Three Pounds Ten Shillings towards the expenses of their outfit :

And whereas we are of opinion that these allowances should be increased so that the men may be able to obtain a full kit, free of expense to themselves :

We beg leave to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased, by Your Order in Council, to sanction, as from 1st October 1902, the issue of a total gratuity of Ten Pounds for this purpose to all newly-entered Stokers, the conditions of payment to be at our discretion :

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.

N.P. 4202 / 1902.
