Medical Officers — Revised regulations with regard to retirement for non-service

Admiralty Order in Council No. 44.

9th October 1903.

N.

Whereas we have had under consideration the regulations governing the compulsory retirement for non-service of Medical Officers of Your Majesty's Navy laid down by Order in Council of Her late Majesty bearing date the 1st April 1881 :

And whereas we are of opinion that an amendment is necessary in the rule that 5 years* non-service in the combined ranks of Inspector-General and Deputy Inspector- General, or in the combined ranks of Fleet Surgeon, Staff Surgeon, and Surgeon must be followed by compulsory retirement :

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the compulsory retirement of all Medical Officers after 3 years' continuous non-employment in any one rank, or after 4 years' continuous non-employment in any two ranks combined :

We further beg leave to recommend that the new regulations should be applied to all future entrants into the Naval Medical Service and to existing Officers on advancement from the rank held by them at the date of Your Majesty's Order in Council.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.

N. 14446 / 1903.
