Admiralty Order in Council No. 104.
20th March 1905.
A.G.
Whereas by the 2nd Section of an Act passed in the 47th year of Her late Majesty's Reign, entitled the Greenwich Hospital Act, 1883, and under authority of an Order in Council of Her late Majesty bearing date the 12th December, 1883, we are empowered at our discretion to grant out of Greenwich Hospital Funds to the parents or other relatives (not being the widow or a child) dependent on any Non-Commissioned Officer, Petty Officer or man of the Royal Navy or Royal Marines, whose death is attributable to the service, a Gratuity not exceeding- one years full wages of the deceased, provided the total expenditure in any one year shall not exceed the sum of 500.
And whereas, owing to the growth of Your Majesty's Navy, it is found that this amount is inadequate in respect of even ordinary casualties.
And whereas the state of Greenwich Hospital Funds does not permit of the present provision being increased from that source.
We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the sum, now granted from the funds of Greenwich Hospital, being supplemented from Naval Funds, as may from time to time be found necessary, such sanction to be so far retrospective as to include certain amounts which have already been issued from Naval Funds.
