Payment to Men of the R.N.V.R. employed as Artificers or Artizans when under training afloat or on actual service in the Fleet

Admiralty Order in Council No. 118.

23rd October 1905.

N.

Whereas we have had under consideration the question of utilising the services of men of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who may possess certain qualifications as Artificers or Artizans :

And whereas we are of opinion that in order to fit such men to work in their respective trades whilst afloat during war or emergency it is desirable that special encouragement should be given them to undergo courses of training :

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction these men being paid, when undergoing training afloat or when called out for actual service in the Fleet and whilst employed at their trades, the lowest continuous-service rates of pay of their equivalent Naval Artificer rating, Engine- Room Artificers being divided into two classes at our discretion a lower with pay at the rate of five shillings and sixpence a day, and a higher at six shillings a day.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.

N. 11959 / 1905.
