Officer holding position of First Sea Lord — Special rate of half pay to, if an Admiral of the Fleet

Admiralty Order in Council No. 128a.

8th January 1906.

A.

Whereas we have had under our consideration the emoluments of the First Sea Lord of the Board of Admiralty who receives, in addition to the Naval half pay of his rank, a salary of fifteen hundred pounds a year together with a house allowance of two hundred pounds a year or a house.

And whereas we consider it desirable that, in the event of the office of First Sea Lord being held by an Admiral of the Fleet who has rendered exceptional and special service, we should have power to increase his half pay in acknowledgement of such services.

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to authorise us in such a case to grant, subject to the concurrence of the Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury, Naval half pay at the rate of Two thousand pounds a year, instead of at the ordinary rate of One thousand two hundred and twenty-two pounds fifteen shillings, this special rate of half pay to be continued on the officer in question ceasing to be a member of the Board of Admiralty and after his retirement from the Active List of Your Majesty's Navy.

We would further submit that this proposal should take effect from the 30 December 1905.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in these proposals.
