Admiralty Order in Council No. 140

28th July 1906.

N.

Whereas Your Majesty was graciously pleased by Your Order in Council of the 20 May 1903 to sanction new regulations for the entry, training, and pay of Bandsmen in Your Majesty's Fleet :

And whereas under these regulations Bandsmen entered as Royal Marines are eligible for Instrument Allowances upon the following scale :

To Band Corporals and Musicians on a certificate that their Instruments have been carefully kept 2d. a day.
To Chief Bandmasters and Bandmasters on a certificate that proper care and supervision have been exercised over the Instruments of the Band under their direction 6d. a day.

And whereas we consider it desirable that these allowances should be extended to such Band Ratings (including Maltese) as are not entered as Royal Marines, if they are supplied with Band Instruments at the public expense :

We beg leave humbly to recommend that Your Majesty may be graciously pleased by Your Order in Council to sanction the allowances being granted accordingly, as from the 1 April 1906 on the same conditions as those on which they are now granted to Marine Bandsmen only.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have signified their concurrence in this proposal.

N. 7891 / 1906.
