29 July 1801 overhauling the papers of La Chevrette [at Plymouth, lately taken by the the boats of the Robust, Doris, and Uranie], it appeared that she was bound with troops and stores for Senegal, with her consort La Guippe, which during the action, cut and ran into Brest ; an order was also found on board from the Intendant of Marine, directing in future, all men of war in action to level the guns at the hull, and not at the rigging as heretofore, instancing as a reason, the great slaughter on board L'Africaine, in her action with the Phoebe off Ceura.
