Gratuity Due to Petty Officers when Promoted to the Rank of Warrant Officers - 1858 *

My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty having under consideration the case of the Petty Officers of Her Majesty's Fleet, who, when promoted to the Rank of Warrant Officers, are subject to additional expense in order to equip themselves for their new position in the Service, are pleased to direct that a Gratuity of �15 be allowed to such Petty Officers as may be promoted to the Rank of Warrant Officer from and after the 31st day of July 1858.

With reference to the last clause of Circular No 374 of 5th June 1859, which directs that applications for payment of the gratuity of �15 to Petty Officers when promoted shall in all cases be forwarded to the Accountant-General of the Navy; my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased to desire that such applications shall in future be transmitted direct to their Secretary.
