(Peavey) Gould, 90, of Beech St., Greenville Jct., died Feb. 7, 2002, at the C.A. Dean Nursing Home in Greenville. Born July 18, 1911 in Patten, ME she was the daughter of John and Edith (Hutchins) Peavey. She was a graduate of Patten Academy. She and her family lived in Patten until 1962, when they relocated to Derry NH. She and her husband returned to Maine in 1967, living in Brewer for a short time before moving to Greenville Jct., where she resided for the past 30 years. Her husband, Leonard Gould died in 1985. She is survived by a son, Allison Gould and daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Newhall) Gould of Antrim N.H., a granddaughter, Bonnie Gould; a great-grandson, Douglas Hilton, both of South Berwick; two brothers, John H. Peavey of Leominster, Mass, and George F Peavey of Patten; a brother-in-law Stephen Naas; and a sister-in-law, Rebecca (Gould) Naas of Presque Isle; nieces and nephews. Ann was born in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of Harry and Rebecca Peavey. Ann was a graduate of Ana Maria College in Worcester, Mass., and worked as a social worker at the Masonic Home in Charlton, Mass. She also worked at Elders Mental Health Care in Worcester. Ann is survived by her husband, David Rennie, and five children. SERVICES: Memorial service arrangements are pending at Union Cove Church in York.  PATTEN, ME Arthur W. Peavey, 85 of Patten Maine died on April 23, 2007 after a battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Charles and Marion (Kennedy) Peavey. He is survived by his beloved companion, Mary Cox of Patten; three sons, Paul R. Peavey of Pepperell, Mass., Charles (Tad) D. Peavey of Harwich, and Clarke W. Peavey of Marshfield; and two daughters, Sandra J. McGibbon of East Dennis, and Andrea M. Peavey of Pepperell. He was the loving grandfather of Ashley and Wyatt Peavey of Harwich, Haleigh and Emilie Peavey of Marshfield, and Daniel McGibbon of East Dennis. He was predeceased by a son, Gordon A. Peavey and his former wife, Elaine M. Peavey. Mr. Peavey was born and raised in Patten. After graduating from Patten Academy, he joined the Army and served in the South Pacific on the Island of Saipan during World War II, where he won a Gold Glove boxing championship. After the war, he moved to Cape Cod where he married and established a home in West Harwich. He was a devoted member of the Pilgrim Lodge, A. F. & A. M. of Harwich for over 50 years, and served as Worshipful Master in 1964. After spending many years in the masonry trade, he taught masonry for over 10 years at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. Upon retiring from teaching, Mr. Peavey re-established his home in Patten. Visiting hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m., on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Bowers Funeral Home, 18 Sherman St., Island Falls, Maine, where Masonic services will be conducted by Katahdin Lodge # 98 A.F & A.M. at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Patten Cemetery at a later date. Peavey, 63, of Shapleigh, and formerly of Columbia, Conn., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Paradise, Calif., on March 21, 1949, the daughter of the late Terrell Sr. and Helen Estes. In 1993 she retired from Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., after 21 years of service with the company. After retirement she became a sewing instructor, a hobby she had taken up as a young girl. In 2005 she moved to Maine and was an active member of the Acton Congregational Church. She was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Jeanette and Caroline. She is survived by her husband, Michael D. Peavey of Shapleigh; children, Robert C. Keenan of Burlington, Conn., Heather M. Pisapia of Everett, Mass., Kathleen P. Nye of North Windham, Conn.; grandchildren, Bryant Goss, Alyssa Bull, Hailey Cerasoli, Ava Pisapia, Jordan Nye, Jared Nye, Jacob Kandolin, brothers, Terrell Estes Jr., Jimmy Estes; and sister, Susan Estes. NELSON SOUTH PARIS, ME Blanche Delia Peavey Nelson, 89, of Wilton, died early Friday morning, Dec. 19, 2003 at the Market Square Health Care Center where she has been a resident for the past two years. She was born in Palermo on Nov. 1, 1914, a daughter of Chester and Jessie (Dyar) Peavey. She graduated from Liberty High School. On Feb. 16, 1935, she married, Manley E. Nelson in Wilton where they made their home on Highland Ave. Mrs. Nelson worked at G.H. Bass in Wilton starting in 1953 until her retirement in 1980. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Wilton as well as the Wilton Senior Citizens. She also served as the Wilton Girl Scout Leader.She very much enjoyed her involvement in the community as well as bowling in the Senior Citizen League and working in her flower garden. She is survived by a son, Richard Nelson and his wife Sandra of Wilton; a daughter, Joyce Palmer and her husband Kurt of Norway; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Palmer of Norway, Jim Palmer and his wife Norma of Norway, Richard Nelson and his wife JoEllen of Wilton, and Rebecca Jean Nelson of Farmington; a great-grandson, Jonathan Palmer of Norway. She was predeceased by her husband; and a sister, Beatrice Wood. Source: Sun Journal Lewiston ME Dec. 20, 2003 PEAVEY, CECELIA P. (Wardwell) ORLAND, ME Mrs. CECELIA P. PEAVEY, daughter of Stephen and Mercy H. Wardwell was born at North Penobscot, Maine, March 18, 1839 and died at Orland, Maine, March 7, 1888. When a mere child, she became identified with the followers of Jesus, and at the age of 13 joined the M.E. Church. On Dec. 1, 1887 she married Mr. Asa C. Peavey of Orland, and less than 4 months from the time we were invited to participate in the marriage ceremony, we were called to attend the last sad rites at her burial. Her last hours were peaceful and happy, with her husband, one sister and friends standing near her bedside, she passed without a struggle. PEAVEY, CHARLES FRANKLIN BANGOR, ME Charles Franklin Peavey better known as 'Ted' Peavey, 79 died Wednesday 09-19-1945 at Bangor Maine hospital, where he had been but a brief time. He had been in poor health for a few weeks. His parents were Hiram and Mahitable (Watson) Peavey. He was born in Exeter Maine in 1866 and lived there until 23 years ago, when the family moved to Corinna and purchased the farm locally known as the 'A R Blaisdell place'. He married Miss Hattie Eastman of Corinna, who died in 1983. He was road commissioner in Exeter. He is survived by two sons and two daughters; John Peavey of Corinna and Mo. M.M. 1/c, Lester Peavey, Mrs. Luene Cote of Newport , NH and Mrs. Marie Pipes of Corinna; wo granddaughters, Sally Jane Cote of Newport NH and Carla Pipes of Corinna; and an older sister, Mrs Eliza Parkman of Dexter, who was present at the funeral. The funeral services were held Friday at 2 P.M. at Buxton Funeral Parlors, Corinna, with Rev. J. W. Reynolds Pastor emeritus of the High St. Union Church, Newport speaking, has been the pastor in the family in the past. There were many beautiful pieces of flowers. R J had charge of the funeral arrangements. The bearers were: JC Brown, Alton Bird, Jerry Roberts and Lester Jones. The burial was in East Exeter Cemetery in family lot. He was born in Montville December 1, 1931, son of Forrest and Minnie (Sanford) Peavey. He loved working. He worked for the State of Maine, Lee Brothers and Dick Edgecomb. His last job he loved the best, working at Hidden Valley Camp. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and his dog. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers Henry and Junior. Forrest, 85, resident of the Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough, formerly of Riverview Terrace, Westbrook, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003 in a Portland hospital. She was born in Brooks, a daughter of Harry and Lila Stoddard Peavey. She was raised and educated in the Hollis-Gorham area and received her teaching degree at the Gorham Normal School. Mrs. Forrest was a substitute teacher at many area schools and later worked in the retail industry in greater Portland. Her life was centered around her grandchildren, Shelley and Craig. She had served on the Council at Riverview Terrace; she volunteered at polling places in Westbrook and Portland and at TOPPS, she was an avid beano and card player; enjoyed painting and giving her paintings to people; and enjoyed trips with the Senior Citizens. Her husband, Ralph W. Forrest, died in 1979. She was also predeceased by, brother H. William Peavey. She is survived by a son, Michael and wife Terry Forrest of Westbrook; two grandchildren, Craig and wife Jessie Forrest of Westbrook and Shelley and husband Alan Walsh of Waltham, Mass.; and great-granddaughter, Riley. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m., at the South Buxton Cemetery, Torrey Hill. Rev. Gordon Pierce will officiate. Following the service, there will a gathering at the home of Michael and Terry, in Westbrook. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. He was born at Exeter, Oct. 9, 1884, the son of George and Mary (Murray) Peavey. He was the owner of Peavey's Express, which he sold in 1940 to Fox and Ginn.  BANGOR, ME & ST PETERSBURG, FL Elaine (Stanley) Peavey, 90, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008. She was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Gouldsboro, the daughter of George and Marguerite (Smith) Stanley. Elaine graduated from Steuben High School in 1935 and attended Maine School of Commerce for 3 1/2 years. She was married to Henry Peavey for 28 years and had a great love for family and enjoyed her 25 winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. She is survived by her children, Diane Skinner and her husband, Allen, of Summerfield, Fla., David Peavey of Rockport, Texas, George Peavey and his wife, Jo Ann, of Brookville, Fla., Joseph Peavey and his wife, Janice, of Bangor, Victor Peavey and his wife, Crystal, of Glenburn and James Peavey of Bangor, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grand-children; and her special friend, Mandee.  PATTEN, ME George Francis Peavey, 94, died Sept. 6, 2007, in Patten ME. He was born July 3, 1913, in Patten, the son of John and Edith (Hutchinson) Peavey. George was the 1937 Lightweight Golden Glove champion for the state of Maine. He is survived by one brother, John Halbert Peavey of Leominster, Mass. He was predeceased by siblings, Helen Stimpson, Alice Peavey, Olive Cunningham and Anne Gould.  BANGOR ME & BROOKSVILLE, FL. George Standley Peavey, 67, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 21, 1943, in Bangor, to Henry L. and Elaine S. Peavey. George had a great love for his family, and enjoyed summers in Maine and winters in Florida. He graduated from Bangor High School and was employed by Nissan Baking Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1994. His passion was fishing and he enjoyed his retirement doing what he loved, fishing the lakes of Maine and the Gulf of Mexico. He enjoyed life to the fullest and everyone around him enjoyed him to the fullest. He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; his children, Diana Annis and her husband, Donald, of Norton, Mass., George Peavey and his wife, Teena, of Lake City, Fla., Kenneth Peavey of Lake City, Fla., and Kristy Gary of Brewer; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; his sister, Diane Skinner and her husband, Allen, of Summerfield, Fla.; brothers, David Peavey of Rockport, Texas, Joseph and his wife, Janice, of Bangor, Victor and his wife, Crystal, of Glenburn and James of Bangor; several nieces and nephews.  HERMON, ME Gilman Henry Peavey Sr., 84, passed away Feb. 24, 2009, at his home in Hermon. He was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Bangor, the son of George Ivory and Stella Perkins Peavey. Gilman was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1943. During his younger years he was self-employed and owned and operated Peavey's Garage, Hermon Junction and several other small businesses. He worked 30 years at Acme-Dunham, Bangor, retiring in 1980. During his later years, he was involved in purchasing, renovating, selling and renting apartment houses in the Bangor area. He enjoyed many great times with family and friends at his camp at Moulton Pond, Dedham. Gilman served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific, 1943-1946. At the time of his discharge he was a staff sergeant and his love for the U.S. Marines was quite evident. He was a member of Lynde Masonic Lodge No. 174 AF & AM of Hermon. Gilman, in his earlier years, was also active in Hermon town government, having served on town council and budget committees and acted as code enforcement officer and building inspector for the town of Hermon. Gilman is survived by three sisters, Harriet "Blondie" Beaulieu and her husband, Roland, of Orlando, Fla., Judy "Red" LeClerc of Tiburon, Calif., and Bertha "Betty" Kirk and her husband, George, of Orlando, Fla. He was predeceased by his brother, George Peavey and his wife, Arlene, of Boulder City, Nev. Gilman was also predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Elsie Peavey Hand, formerly of Carmel. In addition he is survived by his three children, Gilman H. Peavey Jr. and his wife, Vicky, of Carmel, Janet Peavey Brown of Hermon and Michael E. Peavey and his wife, Brenda, of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by special friends, Jerry Rogers of Bangor and Galen and Julie Mayhew of Carmel, and many other good friends. A celebration of Gilman's life will be held noon Saturday, Feb. 28, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, conducted by the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church. Family and friends may visit 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. GRAY PLYMOUTH, ME Gwendolyn B. Gray, 90, died March 11, 2006, at a Pittsfield healthcare facility after a short period of ill health. She was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Canaan, the daughter of Walter and Beulah (Bickford) Peavey. She was educated in Canaan schools. Gwendolyn was married to Kenneth N. Gray, who died July of 1989 after 57 years of marriage. She worked for many years at Edward Technology in Pittsfield. Gwendolyn liked spending time with her family and she took great pride in keeping her home and yard looking good. She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Gray of Troy; one sister, Leona Robinson of Clinton; nine grandchildren, one of them is Ricky Gray of Corinna who she raised; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband and five daughters, Beverly, Faylene, Marlene, Sandra and Sally.  BANGOR, ME Mrs. Helen (Peavey) Jameson of Bangor, widow of Wilfred H. Jameson, died Monday night Dec 31, 1962 at her home, 97 Fern Street, after a long illness. Born in Haverhill, Mass the daughter of John and Annie (Murphy) Peavey, she lived in Bangor the past 39 years where she was a member of the St. Johns Catholic Church. She was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and was a concert pianist in New York City. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Fred Weber of Bangor, and Miss Christina Jameson of Bangor; a son Gilbert H. of Bangor; a sister, Mrs. Alice Lawler of Bradford Mass; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  1924 � 2007 WATERVILLE, ME Jeannette M. Peavey, 83, of Winslow, died unexpectedly on Thursday May 17, 2007, at Inland Hospital. She was born May 5, 1934, in Winslow, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Bourque. Jeannette married Raymond Duguay in 1941. They had four children, Dorothea, Walter, Alice and David. She worked for many years at the Diamond National and Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland. In 1975, she married Paul Peavey. Together they enjoyed their home on the Country Club Road in Oakland. Jeannette especially loved mowing on her tractor. She was an avid Red Sox fan and watched the games faithfully. She made delicious pies for the Pine Acres Restaurant in Oakland and for her friends and family. She was predeceased by her husbands Raymond Duguay, and Paul Peavey; two sons, Walter and David;her brothers Patrick, Wallace and Richard Bourque. She is survived by two loving daughters, Alice and husband Dale Burrill of Cannan, Dorothea of Hudson, N.H., sisters Joan Moore of Sanford, N.C. and Juliette Young of Madison; daughter-in-law Shirley and husband, David Young, of Oakland, longtime friend Ruth Ives of Hudson, N.H. five grandchildren, Holly Duguay and fianc�e Timothy Toothaker of Jay; Andrea and husband, Ruben Lemelin of Vassalboro; Joy and husband Matthew Charles of Oakland; Erin Dustin and fianc�, Richard Pierce, of Westbrook; David Duguay of Waterville, five great-grandchildren, Dinah Lemelin; Dawson, Tucker, and Journey Charles and Zakary Toothaker.  ORRINGTON, ME Juliet "Julie" Anne (Peavey) Parent, 68, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 5, 1941, in Bangor, the daughter of Charles Fulton and Louise (Stratton) Peavey. Julie was a 1959 graduate of John Bapst High School. She enjoyed a long career as a nurse's technician at Eastern Maine Medical Center and enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, entertaining and traveling the world.  PATTEN , ME Lottie Peavey, 89, loving wife of the late George J. Peavey, who died Dec. 14, 1974, went to be with her Lord April 6, 2011, in Patten. She was born April 27, 1921, in Stockholm, daughter of Joseph and Phoebe (Bourgoine) Bossie. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Sodality. Lottie had worked at plywood mills and at Mount Heights Nursing, Patten. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. Source: Bangor Daily News on April 7, 2011 (PEAVEY), MABEL DUNHAM VOGT 1876--Apr 14,1939 in HIALEAH, FL The many Dexter friends of Mrs. Mabel Dunham Vogt, 63, were saddened to learn of her death Friday night at her winter home in Hialeah Florida. Although she has been ill since last July and had undergone two surgical operations, her condition seemed greatly improved and her sudden death was most unexpected. Mrs. Vogt was born in Boston and came to Dexter with her family when she was twelve years of age. In 1893 she was married to William F.Dunham and went to live on the large farm, formerly known as the Dunham place above Lake Wassookeag. A few years before his death, eleven years ago, they bought a home in Florida and spent their winters there. In 1929 she married Mr. Vogt, a prosperous farmer of Alger, Ohio, still maintaining the winter home in Hialeah. Mrs. Vogt was a member of the Dexter Universalist church, Martha Washington Rebekah lodge and Dexter Grange, and was an active worker in the interests of any organization with which she was affiliated. Surviving besides the husband, is a daughter, Mrs. Anna Thiel, a registered pharmacist in Miami, two granddaughters, Annette and Barbara Thiel; a sister, Mrs. Charles Dudley of Dexter and three brothers, Ivory Peavey of Bangor, M. H. Peavey of Massachusetts and E. J. Peavey of Garland, also several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Grace, passed away seventeen years ago. Mrs. Thiel will accompany her mother's remains to Dexter for interment in the Dunham lot at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in June. She and her husband, Robert were also caretakers of estates in Connecticut and Massachusetts. She drove school buses for District #3 and enjoyed her work as an EMT for Liberty Volunteer Ambulance. Mary also worked with disabled children and adults. She had a love for horses all of her life started a handicap riding program.  RUMFORD, ME Phyllis E. Peavey, 78, of Isthmus Road, died on March 15, 2007, with her daughter at her side at the Rumford Community Home, where she had been a resident for the past nine years. She was born in Rockland on April 8, 1928, a daughter of Eugene and Mary (Cushing) Metcalf. She was educated in Rockland schools, lived in Portland for 25 years and has since been a resident of the Rumford community since 1979. She was a homemaker after getting married to Warren E. Peavey Sr., who predeceased her on Feb. 7, 1993. Phyllis attended St. Athanasius & St. John's Church and was a very devoted Catholic whose faith remained strong her whole life as she endured many troubled times throughout her years, but is now at peace with her Lord. Along with her devotion to the church, she simply loved her children as a mother does. She leaves five daughters, Mary E. Coffin and her companion, Terry Bernard of Rumford, Barbara Coffin of Providence, RI, Patricia Simoneau and husband, Rick of West Kennebunk, Betty Ramey of Portland and Elizabeth Peavey of Skowhegan; three sons, Warren Peavey, Jr. of Portland, Franklin Peavey and wife, Wella of Providence, RI, and Robert Peavey, also of Portland; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Giggy and Kathleen Prindall, both of Freeport; and a brother, Philip Metcalf and wife, Beverly of Oxford.  June 14, 1847 - January 9, 1912 EXETER, ME Mr. S. Roswell Peavey died with startling suddenness Tuesday morning in his 65th year at his home on Newmarket road, being stricken while seated at the breakfast table. He quickly expired. On Monday he visited the village and in a chat at the NEWS-LETTER office seemed in his usual health and in excellent spirits. Mr. Peavey was born in Exeter June 14, 1847, the son of Samuel and Sarah Gilman Peavey. He had spent his entire life on the homestead farm, which borders on the Squamscott, and the Appurtenant fisheries long furnished Mr. Peavey a lucrative avocation. He casually remarked Monday that he could not now endure the night work thus entailed at certain stages of the tide. He has left his wife; two sons, Leroy D. Peavey of Malden, Mass., who graduated from the Academy in 1894 and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1898, and Frank G. Peavey, who lives at home; also a sister Mrs. Charles H. Bickford. The funeral will be at 2pm today and will be conducted by Rev. Herbert F. Quimby, the Red Med co-operating.  YARMOUTH, ME Shirley Carson Peavey passed away quietly and peacefully with her loving children by her side on May28, 2009, at Bay Square in Yarmouth. She was 81 years old. Born in Portland on July 4, 1927 and raised in Gorham, she was the daughter of Solomon J. and Annie M. Carson. She attended local schools and graduated from Gorham High in 1946. She also attended Westbrook Junior College. In 1947, she married H. William Peavey, who predeceased her in 1985. She was also predeceased by her brothers Clayton and Roy Carson. Shirley lived in Bath for over 50 years, where she was active in the community. She taught nursery school, first at home, and then at the YMCA. In 1972, she went to work as a secretary/receptionist for Pine Tree Society, where she remained until retirement. She was a member of numerous civic and charitable organizations; most notably, she served as President of the Bath Junior Hospital League, spearheading its first annual Bath Antiques Show in 1962. She was a longtime volunteer with Meals on Wheels, as well as the Maine Maritime Museum, where she was a guide aboard the Sherman Zwicker. She was congregant of the United Church of Christ and taught Sunday school there. She belonged to the Bath Country Club and the Maine Pines tennis club in Brunswick for many years, where she organized a number of leagues. She loved animals, was an avid gardener and the head of maintenance of her beautiful yet challenging 1858 farmhouse on High Street, which was featured in the 1996 Bath Home Tour. She moved to Signature Pines in Brunswick in 2003, where she resided until recently. She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Peavey and his wife Judy of Westport Island, and James Peavey of Georgetown, a daughter, Elizabeth Peavey and her husband John McLoughlin of Portland; by three grandchildren, Heather, Matthew and Luke Peavey, all of New York City; a cousin, Audrey Driskell of Portland; one niece and three nephews. SUSAN, MCCUTCHENVILLE, ME Mrs. Susan PEVA, aged 80 years, the widow of Capt. George Peva, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas McCutchan near McCutchanville, last Saturday afternoon. Surviving is the daughter whose tender care for her mother during many years of invalidism lengthened her life beyond the ordinary span allotted to mankind. A son Richard Peva, died a few weeks ago and Monday afternoon the frail body of the mother joined him in the family burial ground at McCutchanville. Ten grandchildren of whom Mrs. Clarence P Wolfe is one, and one great grandson also survive. Mrs. Peva retained every faculty until the last hour and the alertness and cheerfulness that always made her a desirable companion remained with her to the end of a life full of usefulness and goodness to those around her. Her husband, Capt. George Peva, passed away 27 years ago and since that time she has resided with her daughter whose richest heritage will be the memory of love and care she gave her mother. Peva was held from the home, 41 Howard street, Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Hugh C. Burr, pastor of the Portland Street Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Robert L. Webb, Ph.D., a former pastor. Many friends were present and members of the several organizations with which he was affiliated, which are Post 47, G. A. R., Merrimack Lodge of Masons, and Burtt lodge, O. U. A. M. The concluding service was conducted by members of Post 47, G. A. R., vocal selections were rendered by Edward L. Gerry. There were many flowers. The bearers represented each organization with which he was connected. Burial was in the family lot in Exeter, N.H. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Mary Lyford Peva, a nephew and niece in Evansville, Ind. And a cousin in Gardiner, Me. Mr. Peva was born in Windsor, Me., Dec. 3, 1841. In the Civil War he was assigned to Co. G, 11th regiment, Maine Infantry. On Aug. 14, 1864, he was seriously wounded in the battle of Deep Bottom, VA., and was confined in the military hospital for several months, not being able to be discharged till after the close of the war. He returned to his home town and remained there till coming to Haverhill in 1871 where he has since resided. He followed his trade as a carpenter till 1882 when he entered the employ of L. C. Waldeigh and Sons last factory and continued in their employ until compelled by failing health to resign about one year ago.  KITTERY, ME Arthur W. Peverly, 86, longtime resident of Kittery, died at York Hospital Oct. 17, 2007. He was born in Melrose, Mass., Feb. 5, 1921, to Harry R. and Edith O. (Manning) Peverly, he graduated from Melrose High School (1938) and Northeastern University (1943). He worked at Simplex in Cambridge, Mass. (two years); General Electric in Lynn, Mass. (two years); and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., for the Army (four years). He was married to Elaine Buck in May 1944, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Peverly, and children: Donna Taranko-Moulton and husband Kenneth Moulton of Weston, Vt.; Craig and his wife Shirley of York; Marcia Peverly of Kittery; and Robert and his wife Jennifer of Northwood; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Andrew and Amy Taranko and Christopher, Alyson and Benjamin Peverly; six great-grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Buck of Portsmouth. WE REMEMBER: He worked for Simplex in Newington, retiring from there in 1984 after 38 years as an engineer. He has since been active in the Simplex (TYCO) retirees group, and was a member of ASME and SME. He was active in the town of Kittery as chairman of the Planning Board, worked on many town elections and other town activities. He was named Citizen of the Year in 1992. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Kittery, being chairman of the board of trustees, a member of the church choir, and was helpful in many other church activities. For many years, he and member Varrell Wakefield managed the church bottle and can operation whose proceeds are used to help the needy. SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the J.S Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 60 Government St., Kittery, followed by a time of visitation and refreshments in the church vestry. Peverley 89, died Friday June 18, 1976 at the home of Mrs. Eva Bearce, 31 Park St. where he had made his home for the past 19 years. He was a resident of the original Campbell Grant, Minot. He was born in. Bryant Pond , Nov 18, 1886 the son of Dexter and Effie Halkett Peverley. He attended Gould Academy for two years and graduated from Paris High School class of 1907. Mr Peverley also attended summer sessions at Gorham Normal School and Columbia University. He was married to the former L. Agnas Campbell, Feb 2, 1917, she died in 1949. He served in France with the US Army during World War I. Mr Peverley worked here at the Ripley & Fletcher Co. and taught manual training for several years at Wakefield High School, Wakefield MA, Cony High School Augusta and at the VA Center Togus. He was in partnership in a wood turning mill in West Paris for a time known as Wilson & Peverley Mill and later worked for JW Penney and Son co , machine shop in Mechanic Falls. He was a 65 year member of Jefferson Lodge AF and AM Bryant Pond, a member of the Oxford Council R and SM, a 50 year member of Royal Arch Chapter, both of Norway ME, Oriental Commandery of Brighton, member of the south Paris senior citizens , the Veterans of World War I Barracks and he was past secretary of the Retired Teachers assn. of South Paris. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, and served in the South Pacific. After the war he moved to Hialeah, Fla., where he attended the University of Florida and met his future wife, Jeanne Ellsworth. Robert and Jeanne moved back to Maine in 1947, where he worked as a cattle dealer and later as a store manager for the Maine State Liquor Commission, retiring in 1988. Marilyn graduated from Portland High School, attended Becker Jr. College in Worcester, Mass., married and moved to Pennsylvania where she received a bachelor of arts degree in political science, and, in 1975, a master's in education at the University of Pittsburgh. Marilyn returned to New England in 1978, where she worked in various jobs as a professional counselor, and ended her career as a Juvenile Probation Officer for the state of New Hampshire . She was born June 6, 1934, in Garland, the daughter of Charlie and Leona (Peavey) Hall. After graduating from high school, Jackie worked for a summer at her grandfather's canning factory. That fall she entered Mount Ida Junior College with a divided major in commercial course/flight attendant with a minor in horseback riding. Averaging three hours a day riding, she still managed to stay on the Dean's List. In 1954, she graduated and got married, both in the month of June, and proceeded to have four children over the next six years. In 1963, they built the Dexter Motor Lodge. Jackie was very active in community affairs including, Cub Scout den mother, Brownie Girl Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, member of the Parish Council, church choir, Dexter Women's Literary Club, charter member of the Dexter Aero Club, ambulance attendant, Deputy Sheriff, Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis, cooking for church suppers, providing the annual 4th of July lobster cookouts for family and friends, the 99's, the Maine Wing, Civil Air Patrol and was serving as a Mission Qualified Search & Rescue Pilot. Jackie traveled extensively, including trips to southern and southwest United States, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Bahamas, Portugal, and Scotland. Her goal in life was to become a commercial pilot and eventually she was able to do some "flying for hire." She is survived by her husband, Reginald T. Place. died Feb. 11, 2002, in Dover-Foxcroft) ME in nursing home. She was born May 9, 1910 in Fort Fairfield ME, the daughter of Edith (Pitzherbert) and Rodney Kalloch. She graduated from Ft. Fairfield High School in 1930, and in 1933 she completed a course in home nursing (now L.P.N.) in Bangor ME. In 1932. she married Freeland W. Peavey of Bangor, who predeceased her in 1973. They moved to Shelton, CT. in later years operating PV Electric, a paint store and other enterprises. After retiring from business in 1980, she moved to North Kingstown, RI. In 1989, she married Max F. Place and moved to Milo [Maine]. Mrs. Place was active in many social groups, including genealogy, philatelic society, creative writing, and poetry. She was a member of the senior citizens associations in Shelton, Conn. and Kingstown, RI; Garden Club, Key Club. Aldworth Chapter #39 OES, and attended the United Baptist Church of Milo for many years. For several years she wrote a column entitled ?As I Gather it? for a local paper in Derby, Conn. She was a published poetess and her book of poems, ?As I Gather It? was published in Cambridge, England in 1989. In 1987, she received the Silver Poets Award and in 1988, the Golden Poets Award from World of Poetry, Her poems were also published in New American Anthropology and other publications. Her name was recorded in the Senior Hall of Fame in Everett, Wa., at the same time as Guy, Edmund Muskie and Sen. Edward Kennedy and others. She is survived by her husband. son of Beatrice Peavey ALTON, ME John A. Wood, 63, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, April 12, 2009, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 24, 1945, in Dryden, a son of Chester and Beatrice (Peavey) Wood. Friends may call 3-6 p.m. Thursday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating.
