GANN

PONDER-John Mood Gann, retired Ponder farmer and rancher, died at 5;30 pm Wednesday in Flow Memorial Hospital. He was 78.
A native of Denton, Mr. Gann was a lifetime resident of Denton County, He had been a resident of the Ponder area most of his life.
Survivors include six sons,   John W. Gann of Roanoke,   Houston D Gann of Gatesville,   Berk R. Gann of Dallas,   George G. Gann in South America,   Peddy Gann of Ponder and Newton N. Gann of Wichita, Kansas: one sister, Mrs. Nora Gambill of Denton: 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mr Gann's wife, the former Miss America Smith died in 1941. Another son, Mood Junior Gann, died in a prisoner of war camp in World War II.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Friday in the Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Chapel. Burial was be in Jackson Cemetery near Krum TX.     Denton Record Chronicle, 2/22/1962 [Denton TX]
Peddy Ford Gann was born Sept 7 1922. He died May 17 1995.

    John T Garland b 1760-65 married Oct 15 1790 in Louisa Co VA Lucy GORDON. Lucy's brother, Jonathan GORDON was a witness.   John Garland moved from Louisa Co VA to Yadkin River in NC and then on to Georgia.   John settled near Hillsboro in Jasper Co GA about a mile from the Jones Co line.   John Garland, a Revolutionary War Veteran drew land as a Rev War Vet in the 1827 GA Land Lottery.
    Children of John & Lucy:   (1)Louisa Garland b 1792 Louisa Co VA married March 15 1815 in Wilkes Co NC Thomas A GORDON. Thomas died after the 1826 Jones Co GA Tax Digest & before Mar 20 1827.   (2)John T "Jack" Garland, Jr b 1794 Louisa Co VA m about 1855 Nancy KING. John was 50-60 years old when he married, became father of 6 & died at age 88.   (3) Elizabeth Garland b about 1800 Louisa Co VA m Sanders LOTT.   (4) Frances Jane Garland b 1801 in Louisa Co VA m Sept 18 1822 in Jones Co GA James C PEDDY.   (5) Thomas Garland was born about 1802 Louisa Co VA. In 1837 Thomas lived in Thomas Co GA. Thomas was a Doctor.   (6) Hastings Garland b 1807 Louisa Co VA m Oct 18 1832 in Jasper Co GA Bethena KNOWLES.   (7) Susan Olivia "Sukey" Garland b June 15 1808 in Louisa Co VA married William R Lott.     Elizabeth GARRETT was the daughter of William GARRETT, b 1710-15 (d 1780 Louisa Co VA) and Elizabeth ASHTON.   Elizabeth Garrett married 1st ? ? Gordon. Children of Elizabeth Garrett Gordon were: Wisp ( ? on spelling), John, Jonathan, Lucy & Nathaniel Gordon. Elizabeth's 1st husband died before Sept 1776.   Elizabeth married 2nd after Sept 1776 & before Feb 11 1781 in Louisa Co VA, Thomas TERRILL. Thomas Terrill died before Aug 26 1782 in Louisa Co VA.   Elizabeth Terrill owned land on Elk Creek in Louisa Co VA in 1815. Elizabeth Terrill sold land to Hastings Garland as recorded in Troup Co GA deed book B, page 471.

      Generation: 4     Richard Garrett born June 4 1804 Louisa Co VA, was a son of Henry Garrett born 1779. Richard died June 30 1885 in Sumner Missouri. He married Sept 7 1829 in Fayette Co KY Sophia True, born about 1813 in KY.
    Andrew Garrett, born June 22 1808 was the son of Henry Garrett, born about 1779. Andrew died May 6 1878 in Estill Co KY. Andrew married June 16 1829 Debra Benton born Jan 7 1807 in Estill Co KY.
      Generation: 5     Martha Garrett, born June 6 1834 Fayette Co KY was the daughter of Richard Garrett. Martha died Jan 7 1883 Schuyler Co IL. She married Dec 5 1885 in Schyler Co IL Richard Day born June 27 1825 Norfolk England. He died Dec 23 1905 Schyler Co IL.

Thomas A GORDON       Oct 24 1824 Jonathan RICHARDSON of Jones Co GA gave a deed to Simon Durham, the land joining John DEAN, Bradford PEDDY and THOMAS A GORDON.     1825 Jones Co GA TAX DIGEST, Thomas A Gordon 1 poll tax, 5 slaves, 50 acres # 2 land in Jones Co joining Durham; Tax $2.00.     Thomas A Gordon died after the 1826 Tax Digest and before the 1827 Tax Digest, where his wife, Louisa is shown as a widow.     Georgia Journal of March 20 1827   In Jones Co GA at the late residence of Thomas A Gordon, deceased will be sold Tuesday, April 24 all the perishable property of said deceased; consisting of horses, hogs, cattle, sheep, one yoke of oxen, 1 set blacksmith tools, also the plantation will be rented and a Negro man hired, signed J. GWYN, Jr, Adm'r.
      Thomas A Gordon was the deceased husband of Louisa GARLAND as per the 1837 Jasper Co GA lawsuit filed by James C PEDDY.

      In researching James H PEDDY born 1832-33 we find James mentioned in the will of
Elizabeth Davis written Oct 24 1846 and probated in Washington Co GA. Also to her friend Enoch Gray for benefit of James Peddy, son of Elizabeth's niece Nancy Gray.
      Enoch Gray drew land in the 1821 Land Lottery in Washington Co GA.   He is in the 1825 Washington Co GA Tax Digest.   Enoch Gray was the administrator for the estate of Benjamin Sparks when land in Habersham Co GA was advertised in Dec 1826 in the Southern Christian Advocate.   In March 1836 Enoch was a commissioner in the estate of Richard Price, Washington Co GA.     1840 Washington Co GA census, Enoch Gray, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 50-60, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 50-60, 9 slaves.     On Sept 6 1845 the heirs of Thomas Wicker divided his land and it adjoined Enoch Gray and Green Brantley.  
      Enoch Gray, deceased had his will proven in Washington Co GA court Jan 8 1849, Zachariah Gray, executor. On Dec 20 1849 the heirs of Enoch Gray are Zachariah Gray, James Gray, Elizabeth Gray, William Gray, Samuel Miller in right of his wife and John Williams in right of his wife.

Obit for IDA BELLE GRISSOM ROWLAND
Mrs Lenon Rowland entered eternal rest Tuesday, Dec 13 1977.       Henderson TN - Services for Mrs Lenon (Ida Belle GRISSOM) ROWLAND, 54 of 28 Circle Drive, Jackson TN, was at 2 p. m. Thursday at Palestine Baptist Church (in Chester Co TN) with the Rev Robert McCullar officating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Casey Funeral Home in Charge.
Mrs Rowland died Tuesday morning at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, apparently of a heart attack suffered that day at home.
She was born and reared in Parma MO., and in 1956 she moved to Jackson TN to make her home. She was a member of the Liberty Grove Baptist Church.
She leaves her husband, Lenon Rowland of Jackson, a son Ronald Dwight Rowland of Jackson; a daughter Mrs Glendel (Janet L) PEDDY of Nashville Arkansas; two brothers Curtis Grissom of Memphis and Arvil (Orville) Grissom of Gideon MO.; five sisters, Miss Beulah Grissom and Mrs Mamie Hart, both of Chowchilla CA., Mrs Mousina McFall of Memphis TN, Mrs Bernice Allen of Sikeston MO and Mrs Ruby Lee Evey (EBY) of Decatur IL and four grandchildren.   In The Jackson Sun, Jackson TN, Dec 14 1977.)
