Descendants of George Peeps

First Generation

1. George Peeps was born estimated 1693 in of, Lynn, Norfolk, England. He was buried 1 on 12 Sep 1758 in St. Mary's, Brancaster, Norfolk, England. George was voting register in 1734 in Brancaster, Norfolk. He resided in 1754 in Brancaster, Norfolk, England.

It seems very likely that George Peeps is the ancestor of all the later Peeps/Peapes/Peaps/Papes of Norfolk and possibly Tynemouth also. The origin of George is uncertain. His baptism and marriage records have not been found in Lynn, Burnham or Brancaster area records. Marriage bond says George Peeps of Lynn, dated 1718, to marry Rachel Jewell in Burnham Ulph - but no sign of the Marriage in Burnham Ulph records.

There were Pepys families in Lynn, Norwich and Great Yarmouth in this period. The records of the Pepys families of Burnham seem to peter out two generations before this George. There seems to be only one known family having children in the time period of George's baptism. Thomas Pepis married to Susanna Butcher. Other families of Lynn are reasonbly well documented, but no sign of a baptism for George in Lynn records.

In summary it seems that the orgins of George could be:
1) The family of Thomas and Susanna of Lynn, but his baptism was missed from the record, perhaps an adopted child from another family.
2) A family of Norwich
3) A family of Great Yarmouth - such as Granger Pepys said to be son of John and Elizabeth, but his baptism has not been found
4) Some undocumented family in the area (a family of Burhham or Brancaster).

The following is hard to fit in this family as the dates seem to be too early for a known Thomas.
20 Report dated 19 March 1755 of the Committee for sale of meters' places recommending that Jonathan Star be appointed in place of Edmund Durrant on payment of £83 to the Corporation, Thomas Pepys ('Samuel Papes' cancelled) in place of Andrew Whitton on payment of £84, John Sayers in place of Samuel Starling on payment of £95, John Bolden in place of Thomas Blunkett on payment of £100.

George married 1 (1) Rachel Jewell daughter of Edmond Jewell Yeoman and Elizabeth in Apr 1718 in Burnham Ulph, Norfolk, England. They agreed on marriage contract 2 on 21 Apr 1718 in Burnham Ulph, Norfolk, England. Rachel was christened on 24 Apr 1695 in Trimingham St. John the Baptist, Norfolk, England. She was buried 3 on 26 Sep 1727 in St. Mary's, Brancaster, Norfolk, England.

Rachel's father was some kind of Customs officer which may be a link to the maritime occupations of various of the Peeps family.
