Just the mention of the word
sends most family history buffs into a frenzy of grasping for any piece of
information to show their connection with a Royal Family.
Any Royal Family, anywhere. It
also so sends most genealogy researchers into cardiac arrest with the
dreaded “here we go again” thoughts.
In actuality, while it is great
fun to assert a Royal connection, it is one of the hardest pieces of
information to be verified as fact with any recognized historical
material. In most cases,
while there are several excellent reference books on the subject,
conclusive documented factual proof on the subject is difficult to find,
if it exists at all.
The Visitations and Herald’s
reports, while an excellent starting point is not necessarily proof
positive of any claim. It should be remembered that these were prepared
with information supplied by individual’s personal recollections, family
bible records, etc. not by any verified documentation.
Official court records while acceptable as fact often omit
references to individuals deemed not worth of inclusion in the inner
circle of the Court, but still blood relatives.
It should also be noted that a
family’s connection to a Royal Family is not necessarily a positive
piece of information, as some Royals were not exactly wonderful people.
Much as in the case of this countries earliest settlers (ie:
Mayflower passengers) were not necessarily the cream of European society.
The Perkins Family is no
exception. The most popular
claim of our family is a connection to King Henry I of France.
This depends on the parents of Pierre DeMorlaix.
Widely accepted as his father is Prince Pierre DeDreux of Breagne,
however, this fact has still not been absolutely verified and therefore
cannot be accepted without question.
Consequently, the relation to Henry I is also in question.
It is important to remember that Pierre DeMorlaix was French and
therefore any Royal ancestors would also be French, not English.
To chronology the generations
the following appears to be the most accepted line:
-
