Phillip Perry of Whitemarsh

Phillip Perry of Whitemarsh

(Abt 1597 to bef Oct 1669)

Phillip Perry of Whitemarsh Plantation in Isle of Wight County, VA1 may have been born in London, England2 as several researchers have stated.  It does appear he was born in England, but I do not know from where.  The reference to London may stem from the belief of some researchers that Phillip was the son of Richard Perry and the uncle to Sir Micajah Perry.  This may actually be true and deserves much research since several plausible connections have been found though DNA testing has cast some doubt on this.3  Another possible father of Phillip was a Phillip born sometime around 1575 who may have been a brother to Richard.  Some online sources state that Richard Perry was the son of Roger who in turn was the son of William Perry and Alice Ilcombe.4  I have no information on Roger Perry nor do I have anything on Richard being the grandson of William and Alice.  That information is doubtful as Richard was born too many years after William; though he could have been a descendant several generations down the line.

Phillip was born abt 1597, most likely in England or Ireland and died sometime before October of 1669.  He appears to have moved to Virginia before 1655 to a place called “Whitemarsh”.  Several online sources give his wife’s name as Grace.5  He is often listed as the father of Jane, James, Joseph, Jacob, Phillip II, and John I.  Eventually, information on all of his children will be listed here, but for now I am listing his descendants down to Abraham Perry, who I have the most information on.  Click the link below for additional information on this family.
