Picard Surname Guestbook

Year 2001 Entires

Here are the entries from the second year of the Picard Surname Guestbook. This was the year of the Picard Runion that was held in northern Maine (a once in a lifetime event). These entries, in this newer format, are now included in the FreeFind! search for the Picard Surname Homepage. That should facilitate finding other people looking for similar roots in the 19th and 20th centuries.

I have done very little editing of them, so they remain pretty much as typed by the author. I did "bold" the names given as "oldest known ancestor". I also removed duplicate entries. I have also removed snailmail addresses and phone numbers (they remain in my unedited master copy). I can’t guarantee the email addresses are correct, but they are as typed by the author of the entry.

Authors: If you note something about your entry that you wish corrected, this page is correctable... just let me know (see email address on front page of the Picard Surname Homepage).

The original survey questions, as formated below, were:

[date posted] Your Name: Email Address:
Who are your earliest known Picard, Pecor(e), Destroismaisons, Threehouse ancestors? [in bold]
Do you have Picard information to share with others? [Share?]

I have no particular request to make. I do have a simple statement I would like to make. Thank you for taking the time to investigate and catalog all this information on my/our families names. There is one small piece of reference I would like to share with you dating back to the 1200's. I once read a piece of educational material that credited a "Picard" with the discovery of the first demonstration of artificial electricity. I really have no true hope of knowing my geneolgy but I am convinced the name "Picard" has true historic and civil history. once again, thank you.... Thomas Wayne Picard Fort Worth, Texas

My Grandparents were John William Pecor and Adele Marleau of Oconto, Wis. If you see this Anna, I believe your Albert is my Grandfather's brother. We also have information dating back to Antoine and find some dates off so need more documentation. Other names in our line are Belanger, Gravel, Lavac, Citoleux, Sabourin, Bissonnette, Laporte. If anyone visiting this site have these families in your line, let's compare notes. Ellen has done a Great job in preparing all this information for us. Problem is that I'm attempting to go backwards, from my father's parents whom I know little about except that they were both born & married in Kamarouska. They moved to Lawrence, MA about 1900 to raise their family. The only other helpful bit of information is that I know the names of grandmother Clara's seven siblings. Wish me luck! Janet Labrecque

I was looking to see if there were ancestors/parents listed for H. Frank Picard. He was a Hudson Bay trapper who came to what was later known as Siskiyou County, California. He was married twice. His first wife unknown name, was a daughter of Chief Tato, of the Shasta Tribe. They had 3 children, Mary Ann, Henry Francis, Jr., and Caroline. Their daughter, Caroline married Joel Maxwell Rambo, and their son, Godfrey Joel Rambo, is my grandfather.
Frank Picard married a second time to Caroline Whittle, daughter of Robert Whittle and Matilda. Matilda was Klamath Indian. Robert and Matilda Whittle are my gg-grandparents through my grandmother, Lily Grace Allen; and she married Godfrey J. Rambo.
I have copies of letters written by Frank Picard's grandson through his second marriage. The letter's are written to my cousin in the late 1960's. It lists the children, some birth dates, and marriage info. It says: Henry Francis Picard, my grandfather, was born 28 March 1829, in St. Louis, Missouri, and was of French decent. He apparently was well educated when young and at one time planned to be a lawyer. He came west about 1849-1850 as a trapper for the Hudson Bay Company and located in the area that later became Siskiyou County. He must have dropped the name of Henry, because he was always called Francis or Frank throughout his life. He first wife was a member of the Shasta Indian Tribe and they had three children, Mary Ann, Henry Francis,Jr., and Caroline."
There is more information scattered through the letters. I am interested in finding out more about his parents and siblings and beyond. There is a woman on Picard forum that says Frank Picard is her gggrandfather, I guess that means gg-grandfather. She states Otiswiter as the first wife. She also states that Frank's parents were Francois Picar, b. abt. 1803 In. and Emille Grimault, b. 10/14/1807. I have contacted her, with no reply.
Do you have any of these people in your database? I have more information concerning Frank Picard and his descendants, written in these letters from his grandson, if you are interested. There is also references to records found in Yreka, Calif. Sandy Garrett Owsley = from Oregon

My ancestors date back to Antoine Destroismaisons. Three generations later, I find Jacques Destroismaisons-Picard who Ellen says her husband is related to. After that, there come five generations of Renes : #1 Rene married in 1734 ; #2 Rene married in 1755 ; #3 in 1786 ; # 4 in 1817; # 5 Rene presents two different features from his predecessors : first, his name is reversed to Picard-Destroismaisons ; second, he no longer lives in Ile d'Orleans as his predecessors did, but he crossed the St-Laurent river to the mainland, to get established in St-Roch, Quebec. Was the "pont de l'Ile d'Orleans" already built by then ? I should check that. Two more generations, then my mother, Germaine Picard, dit Destroismaisons, who is now 89 years old.
I found fascinating Ellen Picard's vertical work on our genealogy, and also super fun to read all the horizontal spread of the Picard descendants all over the world. Great stuff! If anyone is at all interested in all this, please write an e-mail to me. Once again "picardly " yours, Suzanne

Hi! Thanks for the opportunity to exchange info. about our past and immediate families. Can you direct me to some research about the Picard dit des "Trois Maisons" versus dit "Huron". It seems to be some connections between these two families. Also, apparently my grand-grand-mother was called Marie Meloche (she was Mohawk) and married with a Picard (region of Khanawage, Québec, Canada). So, I am trying to define if there is some relations between the Picard dit Des Trois Maisons, Picard dit Huron et some connections with Mohawks. There is many Picard in Loretteville (Québec) which are Huron. Many thanks for reading me and sorry for my poor English! Hope to [h]ear from you, From a member of this big Picard family in Québec, Canada, Claude Picard.

I've never even considered doing a geneology search of my relatives but I just happened upon your site the other day. I never realized there was so much interest in the Picard family name. I know virtually nothing about my father's family but I will be happy to share the very little info that I do have as I have not seen any of their names listed. My father was Ernest Bernard Picard, born May 19, 1916 in Leominster, Massachusetts. His father was Adolph(e) Picard, his mother, Eva Bergeron Picard. My dad's siblings included: Eudor, Rene, Gertrude, Laurette and two other sisters that died when they were in their early teens (one was named Yvonne I think). Additionally, there were half sisters from Adolphe's previous marriage, Eva, Anna and one more whose name I've forgotten. My dad, the youngest, was the only one born in the U.S., the rest were born in Canada. After my dad was born, his family moved from Massachusetts to Vermont. Maybe this info will be helpful to someone searching for ancestors. Sincerely, Marianne Markwell

Hello, My stepfather (Bruce G. Picard) is the only other Picard family member I know. He, himself, has absolutely no idea where ANY relatives are/have been since he returned from the Vietnam war after his tour of duty in the 70's. All he remembers is that he has a (younger?) brother named Robert, a younger sister, and a younger set of fraternal twins (a boy and a girl, whose names are unclear). The last memory he has of his father takes place when Bruce was a young child (approx 6-8 yrs old), holding his mother's hand, watching his father walk into a government building (possibly in uniform). Bruce was born on February 15, 1938, possibly in New York City. Judging by his age at the time of his last memory of his father, his father might very well have served in the armed forces during WWII. Bruce has been fruitlessly searching for his brother Robert and any other close family members since the mid-eighties. I/he would greatly appreciate ANY information/conjecture about their whereabouts. Is anyone looking for a Bruce Gregory Picard? Sincerely, Suzanne Picard

There is more current info on Joseph and Adelaide Robidoux and their nine children, one of whom was my great grandfather. I think I can supply a bit more about the other children of Joseph and Catherine Leroux. She is the elusive one. Can't find a marriage yet or a baptism. Thank you for the site! I am just starting to search for my ancestry. Does anyone know about Homidas Picard (married to Marie-Blanche Pelletier)? They gave birth to my grandfather early 1900s in Ste-Louise Que. compte L'islet Canada. His name is Rodrigue Picard (Maried to Beatrice Desmeules Born in shipshaw Que.) My grand parents lived in St-Jean-Vianey where they raised their family just before the 1969 landslide.
I have also heard that my first ancestor in Canada settled in Ile D'Orleans Que. My mother told me, according to my great uncle, that he was a killer and his nick name was "Barbe Bleue". BTW, I also have a few liars (story tellers) in the family so I'm not too sure if this is true. Any information sent to my e-mail will be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Alain

What I found unusual was that I seem to share some things with the other Robert, I have always been fascinated with the military and playing the drums. I have just started doing the Picard name and stuck for quite a while but found a distant cousin and he sent me pictures of my grandparents and her family in the early 1910. She lived to be almost 102 and has a street named after her under Rocheleau in the city of Vanier Ontario. My cousin Yvon Picard will be going to the reunion and we hope to meet up with them there if all goes well. We will be going by trailer and will need a parking spot, If you know of one please feel free to let me know. Your Truly John Rocheleau

I am very excited about the Picard Family Reunion. I am very impressed with the Picard Home Page. I am interested in finding out about my family roots, as I don't know who my ancestors are. I would appreciate any help that you can give me. Here is what I Know:
1. My Father was Rudolphe Joseph Picard, Born 1900 in Quebec area.?
2. My Mother was Antionette Florence Bedard, Born 1909 in New Bedford, Mass.
3. My Father had brothers named Charles & Robert.
4. For Charles had a grocery store on La roue 6 in either Montreal or Quebec.
5. For Robert had a diner in Clinton, Conn.
These are the only relatives that I know the name of.
When I was very young we visited relatives in Three Rivers, and also a farm in one of the near by county, which may have been the home place. I remember a sawmill on the home place. I can remember playing with my cousins on this farm. It appeared the sawmill was a family busness.
This is all I can remember of my family.Any help will be appreciated. Thank. Rene Joseph Marcel Picard
