Philippe Destroismaisons

*** MAJOR REVISION NOTE (Oct 2004) ***
Reformated and Revised January 29, 2000
Updated and Renumberd August 12, 2000
Surnames in CAPITALS indicate my husband's lineage.

PLEASE NOTE: I have updated my database for this family using major genealogy works including PRDH and Jette. This greatly improved lineage is best reviewed using the 4 generation outline that I completely revised on Oct 22, 2004. The Genealogy Report below provides the details for the first 3 generations.

The Destroismaisons dit Picard family is the Picard family that I am most familiar with. This is my husband's line. The basis for this project started when I recieved the direct lineage work done by my husband's grandmother. Not long afterwards, Frank Olson shared with me his extensive work on the Destroismaisons dit Picards. I have built upon those beginnings, first using Father Eloi Gerard Talbot's Généalogie des familles originigaires des comtés de Montmagny, L'Islet, Bellechase (Talbot). Then I glean what I could out of the on-line l'Abbe Cyprien Tanguay's Dictionnaire généalogique des familles canadiennes depuis la fondation de la colonie jusqu'à nos jours (Tanguay). The next major work I consulted was Rene Jette's Dictionnaire généalogique des familles du Québec : des origines à 1730 (Jetté). Additional marriage infomation has come from the Institut généalogique Drouin's Répertoire alphabétique des mariages des Canadiens français, 1760-1935 (Blue Drouin); Répertoire alphabétique des mariages des Canadiens français, 1760-1935 : ordre féminin (Blue Drouin - feminin); and Dictionnaire national des Canadiens français, 1608-1760 (Red Drouin) as posted by Best Bill and others to the Quebec-Research-L@rootsweb.com mailing list. Where some spouses have Acadian connections, Stephen White's Dictionnaire généalogique des familles Acadiennes : Première Partie 1636 à 1714 (SWhite) was used. Additional information has been added by references cited by members of the Quebec-Research-L@rootsweb.com, Acadian-Cajun-L@rootsweb.com, and Picard-L@rootsweb.com. A few citations are from the Dictionary of Canadian Biography Online. But, foremost, the best details have come from my recent exploration of the records at Programme de recherche en démographie historique (PRDH).

Two very interesting disertations that I have been given are worthy of note. The first is from "Familles Anciennes du Boulonnais". It is about an early deTroismaisons family and I have laid the information out in a genealogy report in a blend of French and English. This family is "likely" the forebearers of Antoine, but the connection cannot be proven. The second comes from "Les Picards au Canada" a French book about the early pioneers of Canada who originated in the Province of Picardie. The book contains 2 pages on the Destroismaisons of Picardie, France. Read both of these works, and one begins to understand the basis for the occassional rumors about an Picard Estate.

Notes for Antoine DESTROISMAISONS:

Source Family Contact:
Picardie is now the Department of Somme, and parts of Pas de Calais, Oise, and Aisne. It extends from the English Channel along the Somme and Oise Rivers to the Belgian border. It first became known as Picardie uner the house of Valois in the 13th century. The area was ceded to Burgandy in 1435, but reverted back to France in 1477 and was made a province with Amiens as the capital.

One of the Family Contact Sources visited Bazinghem and found a map of the hamlet of Trois Maisons. The hamlet no longer exists nor is there any evidence of houses on the site.
